Something To Be Thankful For

Mom rented out a lake house in Austin for the family to stay together over Thanksgiving. It was a nice break from the city life and a good opportunity to get some quality time with the fam. Here are some highlights/memories from the week:

-One afternoon, while Heath, Finley and I were sitting outside, Heath (my 5 yr. old nephew) said, "remember that time when Finley gave me a really big hug?" I honestly didn't know what day he was talking about, but I let him continue..."I will never forget that. Even when I am a grown man, I will never forget." Heath loves his little cousin, and I'm learning he is a pretty sentimental guy.

-While Nonnie, Blake, Brooke and I were playing a game of pool, Brookey (my 9 yr. old niece) got out the microphone from the karaoke machine and began commenting on the game. Usually she would introduce the next player and say, "the pressure is on..." It was a very dramatic game of pool.

-This little neighborhood was teaming with deer, and they were not afraid of humans. We always had about 4 or 5 wandering around the back yard. I got this sweet picture of Keepaw, sitting with the boys, feeding the deer. I know Keepaw was wishing he had a gun.

-Instead of shaking hands, Finley likes to greet people by sticking her fingers in their mouths. Even when you close your lips really tightly, she has a way of getting those tiny greasy fingers in...and she will put them right down your throat, if you let her. Several times, I caught her digging in her cousins' mouths like she was looking for a cookie..jeesh...and we wonder why kids catch germs so easily.

-One of my favorite memories was when we dedicated Finley. All of the adults gathered on the balcony, and prayed over our little girl, asking God to be in control of every area of her life. It was such a blessing to hear my family voice their prayers for her, and it was such a reminder to me of the enormous responsibility that God gave to Ted and I.

-Ted and I went on a bike ride one afternoon. It was really a beautiful ride through the hills in Austin, and of course, I loved having that time with my hubby. Afterwards, we went to the grocery store and bought matching t-shirts...

The trip was great! Finley seemed to enjoy it, although she didn't sleep very well....therefore, neither did we, but it was worth the sleepless nights to get that time away. I definitely came back with a heart full of thankfulness for my family, for good food, and for this big beautiful world we live in! :)
