To be honest, the first day I arrived at our hotel, I stared with jealousy at the lovely women walking around the pool in their cute cover ups. I was chasing kids around the room and wishing I could join them downstairs for a few hours of mindless sunbathing. Of course, I was also coming from a tough week at home, being snowed in and physically exhausted. I had asked my friends to pray that the trip would be re-energizing for me because I had honestly slid into a mommy valley, feeling desperate for a break.
After a few days, and some needed sleep, I realized that it was the greatest blessing to be in such a beautiful place with my two littles, as well as Ted's sweet family. We spent most of our days playing in the sand, splashing in the pool, and taking the stroller around town. Ryder discovered on the plane ride that waving was the best way to get attention from the chicks, so in his excitement, he started waving with both hands. Fin learned how to say "hola," so we were a friendly bunch. She also learned how to say "no gracious" to all of the energetic sales people. Ryder said his first word, "bye bye" to go with his love for waving. I was glad his first word wasn't in spanish.
Just after getting off of the plane, Finley discovered that the sun came with us to Mexico. She was really excited that it followed her there, so we decided that we would also take it to the beach. One night, as we sat out on our balcony talking about the boats and the water, she looked over at me and said, "shhh mom, don't wake the sun."
We ate out almost every night. Both of the kids LOVED the mariachi bands that would serenade us during our meals. It was so cute to watch both of them dance to the Mexican music. I usually took the opportunity to scarf down my food as both kids were finally being entertained. Ryder tried lots of new foods including sea bass and calamari. Fin feasted on cheese quesadillas for every meal. One night I asked Fin if she wanted to eat chicken fingers and she said "no...I want chicken without the fingers."
What a great trip! Thanks Grammy and Pappou for blessing us with these special memories!
