The Best of His Creation

Day Seven of Montana Trip: We went for a drive this morning, following the road around Glacier Park. I really don’t even have words to describe the scene that we were allowed to see this day. It felt like God wrapped up the best of His creation and set it before us, saying “look how much I love you.” The views were unbelievable…so vast, so blue, so extraordinarily sculpted. We just sat in the car with our mouths wide open.

We ended the drive at Lake McDonald, where Ted and I went for a swim. The water was cold but really refreshing. We laughed at each other as we slowly entered the water, making odd noises and faces. Sitting on the beach to dry off, I surveyed the property that sat before me. The big green mountains peered down at their reflection in the crystal blue lake. How could God make something so beautiful? Interrupted by the sound of children laughing, I looked down at the kids splashing and playing in the water. Then I noticed a dad, with his two children, skipping rocks on the other side of the bank. I realized that God’s best artwork was not the overwhelming landscape that lured each of us to this place. It wasn’t the goats with their curly horns that came within feet to the side of our car that morning. It wasn’t the eagle that mysteriously floated over the sky-scraping trees. It was these faces…these voices, that made Him say with final resolve, “it is good.”
