Independence Day

Day Six of Montana Trip: Bill and Mary Jo drove us to West Glacier where Ted and I joined a White Water Rafting trip. This was a wet adventure, with many “hair-raising”(one of Mary Jo’s favorite words) moments. The highlight of the trip was finding out that we were on the same river that was used in “The River Runs Wild”, a movie with Kevin Bacon and Meryl Streep. Our guide pointed out the very cliff that Kevin Bacon jumped off of. After white water rafting, we went to lunch where we ran into the Orenders. Then, we drove down to a trail called “Lake Avalanch” where we hiked to this lake situated in the middle of a valley, with waterfalls pouring into it on every side. It was worth every ounce of sweat. The lake was very cold, but crystal clear.

That night, we sat on the back porch of the Izaak Walton with the other hotel guests and the 30 people who live in the town, and watched a firework show. It was like a family. Even the waiters and waitresses from the lodge restaurant were there. Congratulations America!
