Conversations with Heath

I have to tell you that my favorite part about having little kids in my family is hearing the things that they say. Here is an exert from an e-mail I got from my brother, describing a conversation he had with his son, Heath:

"Heath and I had a deep conversation at Popeye’s last night. He started talking about God and he said he is not in the water, he is not on the land, he is not in the clouds – he is in heaven. And then he asked me, why is God in Heaven – did he die? I told him that God has always been in heaven and that he created the world where we live and die. He said he wanted to go to heaven when he died. I asked him if he knew what he had to do to go to heaven and he said no. I asked him if he knew who Jesus was and he said God’s son. I asked him if he knew what Jesus did for us and he said God sent him for us. I asked him if he knew why and he said to love us. I said yes and he loved us so much that he died for us so we could go to heaven when we die. He kind of had a sad look and he said, why did he have to die? I said because we all do bad things, even mommies and daddies, so someone had to take the punishment for it – Jesus died on earth and took the punishment so we could go to heaven when we die and all you have to do is believe that Jesus did that. He said, “Wow that was really nice of Jesus, do you know that there is an animal called a doo doo?” He then went on to say (in his outside voice), “I am being really good tonight. I am not saying doo-doo or poo-poo or penis or pee-pee unless I need to go doo-doo or pee-pee or if I need to tell you something about my penis – except there is an animal called a doo-doo and I can talk about him even if I don’t need to go doo-doo.” So the conversation quickly switched but I can tell he is starting to put the pieces together and ask questions about God and Jesus. It was pretty cool."
