One thing I loved about Cabo, was being immersed in the Mexican culture. When we walked away from the resort, we discovered dirt roads, half finished buildings, and Mexicans displaying their homemade crafts. The area was certainly built around the business of tourism. There were nice resturants and hotels in every direction. It was not quite the same Mexico I had seen on my mission trips, but it was still simple. I remember visiting a very poor village in the northern part of Mexico (while I was in high school) and falling in love with the people. I was inspired by them...living in their cement block homes with no roofs and no bathrooms. There is something quite challenging about people like that, who meet you with such joy and have no trouble drinking the water. They reached out to me with their skinny fingers, and I felt that I was shaking the hands of heros...people who could write a book about physical and mental toughness.
When we walked through the streets of Cabo, I found myself feeling the same sense of intrigue. It was the same culture with hard-working people who love to welcome foreigners. Ted, Finney and I spent a day walking through the flea market and eating authentic Mexican tacos. It was my favorite day in Mexico. Here's a cute pic of Fin after the excersion...she was ready for her nap.
